Bethlehem council approves ‘pocket’ park

It will have tables for chess and checkers, benches, native plants.

Bethlehem City Council on Tuesday approved a small park for table games, with benches and native plants in a south Bethlehem neighborhood.

The park at Evans and E. Fourth streets will include places for table games such as checkers and chess. The park will be a block from the greenway, a rails-to-trails park that spans the South Side, and across Evans Street from where 20 town homes were built in recent years.

Council Vice President J. William Reynolds called the park a good choice for a lot that has been unused since South Bethlehem Neighborhood Association became inactive.

“It’s a win-win for all parties involved,” he said.
